FAQ's
I’ve just learned about Konect Elite, and I’d like to know more. Who should I talk to?
You can talk to your IT administrator, any dts Reseller, or any dts Distributor to learn more about Konect. If your IT admin doesn’t know about Konect yet, have him contact us directly to speak with someone about what it is, how it works, and how to get started.
Where is Konect installed?
- The Konect server software (see KMC – Konect Management Console) can be installed on any Microsoft server operating system (2003, 2008, 2008R2, 2012), whether physical or virtual.
- The Konect Client can be installed on any Microsoft client operating system (XP/Vista/Win7/Win8). Once the Konect software is installed on the server, simply go to the server DNS name or URL the software has been installed on. Then you can download the Konect Client.
- Coming Soon! Konect Direct, our new HTML5 client, will not require you to download or install anything, as it is running through a browser.
Konect can be safely installed on either a live server or in a test environment. Of course it’s your choice, however, as with any software, we would recommend a trial install in a test environment before going live. Trial installs are meant for a) dts Resellers to learn Konect, and B) to ensure that it will be a viable solution to suit the client’s needs. Get started with a Trial Install today…
If I’ve done a Trial Install, do I need to re-install Konect if/when I decide to purchase?
If you’ve done a Trial Install in a test environment, then yes, you will have to re-install Konect on to a live server. If you’ve done the Trial Install on a live server, then no, a Trial Install isn’t necessary. Once the purchase has been made, dts will issue a license that can be applied without re-installing Konect. See Licensing Explained…
I’d like to buy Konect. Where can I find pricing and how can I pay?
Any registered dts Reseller or dts Distributor can help you with pricing and making payment arrangements. See Licensing Explained...

Do I need Microsoft RDS / TS CAL’s to run the Konect software?
Yes. In order to deliver RemoteApps, Hosted Desktops or any combination thereof, Microsoft RDS &/or TS CALs are required.
I already own some RDS / TS CAL’s. Can I use them?
Yes, as long as the CALS you have are for the right server. For example, if you already own 2008 RDS CALS, and you will be running Konect on a 2008 server, then yes, you can use them. However, if you own 2003 TS CALs and want to run the Konect software on a 2008 server or above, then no, you can’t use them. You would need to purchase RDS CALs for this server in order to run the Konect software.
Can I use my existing RDS / TS CAL’s on a newer Server OS?
desktopsites follows Microsoft’s Licensing Rules. As per Microsoft’s rules, RDS / TS CAL’s are backward-regressive, but not forward-regressive. So, no, you cannot use your existing (older server version) RDS /RS CALs on a newer server OS. If you need to purchase RDS CAL’s for an older server OS, desktopsites recommends purchasing the latest RDS CAL’s available. This way you will have them when you do upgrade the OS.
